Center for Transportation Needs of Special Population (TRANSPO)
LCTR is home to the Center for Transportation Needs of Special Populations(TRANSPO). Established by the U.S Congress in 2004, the goal of TRANSPO is to serve as a permanent center for researching, collecting and disseminationg information about special transportation needs of special populations. Special needs populations include seniors the physically impaired, school-age children, young drivers, immigrants, foreign visitors, and the economically disadvantaged. These sectors of our populations have special transportation barriers. Working closely with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), TRANSPO is conducting research to improve coordination among various federal programs that provide specialized transportation services to the transportation-disadvantaged populations.
